The Appalachian Trail is a 2,179 mile long footpath that passes through fourteen states, going from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mt. Katahdin in Maine. Every year many hundreds of hikers attempt to walk the entire distance in a single season, but only some succeed.
I started my thru-hike the first day of March, surprisingly caught on Springer Mountain by a dangerous winter storm that dropped temperatures into the single digits; and that was before I had even stepped foot on the world famous trail. This is the story of my adventure.

If you're looking for a good story about hiking the AT, this isn't it. The author pretty much says the same thing, over and over, about every day. Woke up, ate, hiked, saw scenery (or not, depending on weather), took pictures. He mentions the names of a lot of fellow hikers, yet we, the reader never really meet them because the author doesn't describe their personality or even attempts to recount conversations. He merely mentions their names. ALso, sentence structure throughout the book is elementary, to the point of being frustrating: I woke up, I hiked, I ate, I took pictures. Yeah, it's a trail journal, but so are some of the really good books: AWOL, Skywalker, Sunshine, Beaten Path. I can't even say there were any little nuggets, pieces of useful information, or words of advice.

A Test Of Time edition by Robert Leon Kennedy Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

Great book ! Enjoyed, I have had 2 hips, one knee replaced ,so I am traveling the AT thru reading . Don't h know if I will ever do this but it's still on my bucket list. You never know what may come up.
I enjoyed this AT story more than some I've paid twice as much for. It's a good read and a good value.
Good story of a man's walk on the a.t. would recommend it to anyone who enjoys hiking and likes the Appalachian area of the u.s.
Nice to hear or read about the experience from someone my own age. Makes me believe that I too can do this despite getting older every day.
It seems everyone that hikes the AT writes a book of the experience. Mr. Kennedy starts out strong until Penn. His description of the natural beauty takes you along as a passenger on his trek. After the midpoint his descriptions start to become shorter and move into more of the "hiked this far...slept here...hot....tired...hungry." genre. I picked it up on (free one day). It was worth the read and glad I read it, but it is not the best trail AT book I have read. More middle of the pack, thus the 3 star review.
A pretty good read with several phrases of pure poetry, but very badly in need of basic editing for correct use of honomyns. Site is used for sight more times than I can count; although it is occasionally used correctly, that's just even more irritating. Imbedded is used frequently for embedded, but sometimes he uses embedded, correctly. I've loved nearly all the AT books I've read, but this one's just harder to enjoy with all the errors. Fix those and it'd be 4-5 stars.
It could also use a bit more fleshing out with personal details, stories of other hikers and, especially, how the author and the frequently mentioned hikers acquired their trail names. <<< that's just my opinion, but the homonym errors are an egregious fact.
I always enjoy reading trail descriptions, ever since my own hike of the AT a few years ago, both to relive my own trip and compare the writer's experiences with my own. This is a good, no-frills, day-by-day account of the author's thru-hike. It reads like a trail journal, describing what happened on each day, though (oddly) he never says what year it was. He starts off at a snail's pace with a heavy pack (including a .38 revolver!) but picks up speed as he goes along. Worth reading if you're an AT-er.
